EXCLUSIVE: Watch James Maddock’s Nostalgic First Video From His Upcoming Release
Music News | May 28th, 2015
For his latest album, The Green, singer/songwriter James Maddock has teamed up with Iestyn Polson, a producer who has worked with the likes of David Bowie, Patti Smith and David Gray. With such an impressive roster under his belt, Polson undoubtedly saw a great talent in the New York based performer. Indeed, the new record, which will come out on June 30, brings out the best of Maddock’s timeless, well-worn rasp.
Now, in advance of his album release, Maddock is premiering the video for the opening track from his album, “Once There Was a Boy.” The simplicity of the black and white video allows Maddock’s lyrics to shine in clear focus. With a sweet melody and visceral poetics, exemplified by the line, “the smell of mud/these scabs and blood,” Maddock sensually evokes a wistful, nostalgic portrait of boyhood, both the highs and lows. Shots of the singer with his guitar lend the video the intimacy of a live performance.
